According to the Guinness World Records the highest price ever paid
for a domain name was $7.5 million.

Most Expensive Internet Domain Name
"The Internet domain name was sold by Texan entrepreneur
Marc Ostrofsky on Dec 1 1999 for 4.6 million ($7.5 million)."

FIVE MOST EXPENSIVE DOMAIN NAMES ? $7.5 million ? $5.1 million ? $3.3 million ? $2.9 million ? $2.2 million

However in January of 2006, was sold for $12 million, making
it the most expensive domain name so far.
