Question ID: 748096
What's the cheapest combination I can put together (specific
motherboard and purchasing source URLs please) to have a new computer
system (AMD64, IA64, Sparc, whatever) that has more than 4GB RAM?
(5GB, 6GB, whatever's cheapest.) Please show a runner up or two so I
know you've actually *looked around*.

After glancing at current memory prices, it looks like one way to
derive this answer might be "What's the cheapest motherboard on the
market that will handle more than 4 sticks of PC5300" since Mushkin is
selling two 1GB sticks for ~$190. Parity / SECDED / etc are *not* a
requirement (though if they're available within $100 difference,
that'd be awesome.)

cheapest to me means high quality/price ratio. If that's what you're
looking for, please say so and I will make recommendations.

I am looking for the system with the lowest purchase price - I know
that if I buy a larger system I could get better overall value (like
TPC - http://www.tpc.org/tpcc/results/tpcc_price_perf_results.asp?resulttype=noncluster
) , but this is strictly for a non-business Windows / Linux desktop
use, and cost is the driving factor.
