Question ID: 74824
where can I get independent, 3rd party evaluations on the performance
differences between BAPI calls and Remote Function Calls for
integration of internet applications to SAP?

Hello nancy,

Are you looking for pre-existing 3rd party evaluations done in an
online review format (appearing in internet articles), or are you
looking for a service company to actually perform this benchmark
service for you/your business?

Thank you -
SgtCory

Hi,

I can answer that question - a BAPI is technically identical with an
RFC and that with a function module.
What qualifies a function module as an RFC is it's communcation
settings (i.e. function module can be called from a program outside
SAP).
What qualifies an RFC as a BAPI is sap's commitment to support the
function module in that specific form, to keep it intact in future
releases and it's addition to the bapi catalogue/bapi network.
As you can see, bapis and rfc are not alternative technologies,
anybody who claims to be able to measure performance advantages, is
giving you bad advice.
Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi Nancy,

btw., if you want to know how to benchmark the performance of a
specfic bapi in comparison with a 'custom' rfc, I can help. Just open
another question.

Morgenlandfahrer
