Hi ericsonofthor,

The answer is NO. The 1997 Toyota Avalon does not come equiped with
the keyless entry, nor do they offer the keyless entry as an optional
upgrade.

REFERENCE:

1997 Toyota Avalon
http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/spec_safety.aspx?year=1997&make=Toyota&model=Avalon&trimid=-1

Remote Controls & Remote Releases
                                     XL XLS
Keyless Entry (Remote Lock/Unlock) N/A N/A
Remote Ignition N/A N/A

Hope this helps!

One of my collegues has pointed me to a site that says the keyless
entry is an option:

http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Toyota_1997_Toyota_Avalon
Optional on the XL and standard on the XLS are anti-theft device with
keyless entry system, aluminum wheels and power bucket seats.

I'll call a Toyota dealer and get to the bottom of it on Monday!

Update Sunday afternoon,

I have a friend that works for Toyota, I have emailed him asking him
for the correct answer. Hopefully he will get back to me on Monday or
Tuesday!

(If you made it this far - Thanks Troy!)

Hi
The keyless entry option from www.automobile-security.com is a
better solution as one does not need to carry car keys.

One can enter by using his fingerprint. Its called Identisafe-09
fingerprint keyless entry system.

I have used it on my Toyota for a period of a year now.
I hope i have answered your question.

Also check for comparison between RF keyless entry and Fingerprint keyless entry.

I feel fingerprint keyles entry and ignition start is more secure.Well
you can still use or keys also.
