Is it true that in one of the indian cricket team tours to west
indies, in one of the games 5 indian players were retired hurt, and
spectators watching the match had to be called onto the playing ground
to fielf ?

the last line should read "the playing ground to field" and NOT "to fielf"

A time frame would be useful. Is this supposed to have happened
recently? Any additional details might help.

yes, the indian team that toured west indies in 1975/76 was in this
situation but they had to call spectators on the field for a very
short time because west indies needed just 13 runs to win the match in
the second innings. the players who were injured were
BS Chandrasekhar
BS Bedi
BP Patel
GR Viswanath
AD Gaekwad

these were injured in the first innings, AD Gaekwad and BP Patel were
injured in the first innings.

west indies won the match by ten wickkets
