I am looking for the name of the theme music and composer/artist used
during the Channel 4 (UK)Tour de France programme of 1986!?? I have
been told its Tour de France by Kraftwerk but I have listened to many
versions and NONE are the correct theme music but that is not to say
it may be another Kraftwerk song or something completely different!
Please help!

Numerous online sources say that the Tour de France musical theme used
by Channel 4 was by Pete Shelley, of The Buzzcocks. Although the theme
appears to have been composed specifically for the Tour de France
soundtrack, the tune has been described as resembling other Shelley
songs, notably "Give It to Me."

"The current theme music's not that bad but not a patch on the music
that Channel 4 used when they covered the tour in the late 80's which
was by Pete Shelley (of... The Buzzcocks)."

"PETE SHELLEY
 Tour de France [SOUNDTRACK]
 NOTES:
Stephen K Mulrine notes: 'Pete Shelley also composed the theme music
for 'Tour de France' on Channel 4 in the UK. The duty officer's letter
states that it is 'not commercially available' and credits it to 'PETE
SHELLEY AND THE BUZZCOCKS'...

Marshal Peters reports in the Secret Public newsletter #11, May 1996,
that the music is from the song 'give it to me'. The music is changed
for 1997 and Pete Shelley's theme is no longer being used."

"PETE SHELLEY Tour de France [SOUNDTRACK]...
It's basically the instrumental riff from Zip's 'Your Love', very
short, and played whilst you see a cyclist riding. The whole thing
amounts to around 50 seconds. The Tour de France music is definitely
one and the same as 'give it to me' although I agree there are some
similarities to 'I Surrender'."

"Does anyone remember what the title music was called when Channel 4
covered the Tour De France? I'd like to get hold of a copy
somewhere...

Yes it most certainly was the Buzzcocks."
