Thanks so far, guys/gals.  Even though I'm sure it was not derived
from any of your guesses (to date), I appreciate your articulating its
likeness to other tunes.  I'm quintupling the reward amount to
instigate further research.  Really, though I appreciate all remarks
regarding the tune's resemblance to Gershwin, I was thinking it
sounded more John Williams-ish.  Anyways, thanks.

Remarkable.  Sort of funny, actually.  That particular theme of the
tune, byrd-ga, was the part I thought sounded most original, as it was
less "catchy" than the more triumphant section preceding it, the main
theme.  But this solves only half of the puzzle.

I would really like to know where the beginning theme derived.

It reminds me of George Gershwin.

Sounds a bit like the theme music for the old TV show,
Adventures of the Sea Spray (I think that's right) About a teenage?
girl, brother? and father travelling around in a sailing boat called
Sea Spray.

Reminds me of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue

Portions of your rendition are very reminiscent to me of the theme
from the Otto Preminger movie, "Exodus." Since you rendered it on
piano, perhaps the Ferrante & Teicher piano version would be better
for comparison than the symphonic soundtrack version. I haven't been
able to find a free link for the complete piece, but a fairly decent
