I am looking for the formula of a commonly used wart treatment
(liquid) that coumpouning pharmacists make for doctors. It has many
names, but is commonly called verrusol or verisol. It contains
cantharidin, podphyllin, tincture of benzion, flexible collodian and
salicyllic acid. Some of my spellings may be incorrect. I need to
know the exact percentages of every ingrediaent. Perhaps thsy can be
obtained by asking a compounding pharmacist directly, or posted
online, or in an old directory/textbook of formulas used by
compounding pharmacists. I just am not having any luck.
Please help.
thanks,
Dr. Crutchfield

Hello,
Since this product (Verrusol) is no longer manufactured, it is
unlikely we can find the exact formula. I have located a pharmacy that
can compound it for you, with a doctor's prescription, for around $20
per ounce. The pharmacist told me it is a very strong product and for
that reason it is no longer around. He said only salicylic acid
solutions of 17% can be bought without a prescription.
Would this information be useful to you?

Hello again Dr. Crutchfield,
Please take a look at Duke Production Pharmacy Compounds page.
The Podophyllum, Salicylic Acid, Cantharidin Mixture "appears" to be
similar to VERRUSOL.
http://www.safety.duke.edu/MSDS/ProdPharmacy/Default.asp
Here are the ingredients and percentages taken from the MSDS.
Name:
PODOPHYLLUM - SALICYLIC ACID - CANTHARIDIN
MIXTURE
COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
Cantharidin 1%
Podophyllum 5%
Salicylic acid 30%
Acetone 40%
Flexible collodion: ethyl ether (17%)
ethyl alcohol (6%)
camphor, castor oil, & pyroxylin (<1% each)

Does this help?
Thanks,

Thanks.
I really need the exact formula. I am a doctor and use it on a
regular basis. I obtain it from a coumpounding pharmacist. They will
tell me what is in it, but will not give the exact formula, via per
centages. They are very secretive in this respect.
With the exception of tincture of benzoin %, which some pharmacisits
include to make it a brown color, I think Bobbie has come very close.
Bobbie, if you can obtain the tinctue of benzoin % great, if not, consider solved.
Thanks for your help, too crabckes.
Thanks,
Dr. C
