*Problem - I have a portable USB device made for Universal Host
Controller Interface (UHCI), and I need it to work on a computer's USB
port that has an Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI). Currently, the
USB device only works on UHCI controllers. The software driver used is
Microsoft's usbser.sys.
*Constraints - The OHCI computer with the problem is a laptop, so
installing a PCI card is not a choice. Redesigning the USB device at
all is not an option. Solutions that include opening up the laptop at
all are strongly discouraged.
*Recommended Solutions - USB hubs and PCMCIA cards have given me
limited luck, so maybe it just means finding the right brand or model
of hub.
*Actual Question - What retail device would allow the UHCI USB device
to work in the OHCI USB port? To receive credit, the answer must
include the manufacturer and model of the device, where it can be
purchased, and how expensive it is. Solutions that do not require a
device (ie~ changing a setting in the *.inf driver file) are
acceptable.

(Note: This product seems to have the same problem.)

Thanks for that information. I'm waiting for the hub to come in the
mail, and will let you know, and give you credit, if it worked.
I have tried a generic USB hub that works with some other computers,
but it has not affect on others.
I have also tried a PCMCIA card from Micro Innovations, but that has a
OHCI controller. I've heard its worked when combined with the generic
hub, but I have only seen it stall the computer until something is
disconnected.

The PCI card from Micro Innovations with a VIA controller does fix the
problem, but that is only a solution for desktops.
