amor omnia vincit. The adjective is placed at the end of the sentence.

Jedna-ga,
Amber and Pink are correct (and in a way, you are too, vincit is the verb).
Yes, in Latin the verb is often placed at the end of the sentence, but in
mottos such as this, English word order is not uncommon.

You are ALL wrong!

It should be 'Money Conquers All'.

'Dinari vincit omnia', maybe?

Now, if I could only find my Latin Dictionary ...

Remember Chaucer's Wife of Bath who had a pendent around her neck with
the words inscribed, "Amor vincit omnia." (Read--the phrase has been
around a bit, even before modern English showed up.)

And of course, how could we forget Stoppard and Giliam's wonderful
film BRAZIL, the subtitle of which was "We're all in this together"
but was changed by the studio into a "love conquers all" version.

You could always read the troubador poets from southern France who
seem to have invented our modern notion of love in the fluid and
beautiful lang d'oc (langue d'oil in the north later birthed modern
French.)

Thank you all for your input.

I read Chaucer in Uni and even though I couldn't remember where I'd
gotten the phrase it was one that stuck with me for many reasons. I do
so love Latin as a language and wish I could speak it. I applaud those
of you who can and urge you to keep it alive by sharing it with
others.

probonopublico-ga... explain the following if you can...

QUANTUM MATERIAE MATERIETUR MARMOTA MONAX SI MARMOTA MONAX MATERIAM
POSSIT MATERIARI?

Thanks

Krysia

Hello again probonopublico-ga.

Unfortunately I cannot claim to be as wise as yourself my friend.

How about translating the following in to Latin for me:

"Redemption" and "Forgiveness" or "Redemption is in forgiveness"

Thanks a mill

How did I miss Probono's second comment? "Pecuniam vincit omnia."

Wrong case with "pecuniam", it should be the nominative "pecunia". :-)

Alas, krysia, I still cannot find my Latin Dictionary ...

So, I am turning your latest request over to my good friend, Myoarin.

His German clearly needs a lot more work but, so far, his Latin appears faultless.

Why, he's so good he probably wears a red cap and works in the Vatican.

I suspect that he's the guy who smokes those cigars and puffs the
smoke up the chimney.

Over to you Myo!
