Global and domestic project management are similar in the following aspects:
- The project can succeed only if there is good binding between the
team members, so that efficiency of the whole is greater than that of
the sum of parts.
- Communication is the key aspect that has to be addressed in both
domestic and global project management.
- Project Manager should monitor the project closely to manage and
control different dimensions like scope, cost, quality, HR,
integration etc.
However, there are some differences between the two:
- Cultural differences in global projects can cause unexpected issues
within the team, which can potentially jeopardise the project success.
It is recommended to provide cross-cultural orientation to the team
members dispersed geographically. Also can organise regular
face-to-face team-building sessions, wherever possible.
- Given the separation, the Project manager has to concentrate on
establishing a robust communication mechanism among the team members
in the case of global projects. Example could be to plan for and have
daily conference calls. |
