what is the best, most accurate (gyro assist preferred), portable,
gps, road navigation aid system for north america?

I am speaking from personal experience here, but I have used many
different GPS tracking tools for navigation and the best one I have
found is the TOM TOM branded products.

The alternative for you is the Garmin StreetPilot C330

However I prefer the TOM TOM as my navigation system. When it comes
down to it, it could be personal choice.

My advise is go for the TOM TOM system, ask your friends and find out
what they use and find out the gripes they have about the devices then
buy accordingly.

If you find a lot of your friends dislike the TOM TOM (assuming they
use it) go for the Garmin, I dont think you will go wrong with the TOM
TOM though, just make sure you update the software on it when you get
it.

If you already have a laptop you may care to glance at the Delorme
system. It might not be the best and is not gyro assisted but I really
like having the full size laptop display and at about $150 for the
receiver and software it is quite the bargain
