Hello. I assume that you have the USB HotSync cable that came with
your Treo 300. The main thing you need to sync your Macintosh Outlook
contacts is the Palm Desktop 4.0 (for Macintosh) software.
As stated on the Handspring site:
"Although the Treo 300 CD does not contain Macintosh software, you can
download Palm Desktop 4.0 for Macintosh from the Handspring site,
which works with Treo 300."
The Palm Desktop 4.0 for Mac software can be downloaded via this page:
"Is the Treo 300 compatible with Macintosh?"
http://support.handspring.com/esupport/forms/hsResolutionView.jsp?ResolutionId=8607&ResType=RESEARCH
(Note: the Handspring site uses cookies and you may be shown a generic
page asking you to select your item, the Treo 300, before it loads the
specific handspring.com pages I have listed here.)
The above page also notes the following:
"When installing, tell the installer that you have a Treo 270. You
will not see Treo 300 as an option, but the software is completely
compatible with Treo 300."
If the above page doesn't correctly load, you can always download the
file directly via this link:
"Download now: Palm Desktop 4.0 for Macintosh"

Additional system requirements, special notes, and installation help
is available at:
"How do I download and install Palm Desktop 4.0 for Macintosh?"

The main Handspring Support area can be accessed at:

Palm Desktop will then allow you to synchronize your data with
Microsoft Outlook. If you require help with specifically getting
Palm Desktop to work with Outlook, please let me know and I will
clarify my answer. Also, please indicate the version of Outlook you
are using and which Macintosh OS you are running.
I hope this information is helpful. But please don't hesitate to
request clarification before rating the answer if you feel that more
information is needed. Thanks!

Thanks for the additional information. Unfortunately, using just
Outlook 2001 and OS 9, you may be out of luck here. While Outlook
Express and Entourage can be made to sync up with Palm, Outlook 2001
doesn't sync with the Palm OS. The raw Outlook 2001 for Mac does not
include components that allow you to perform synchronization, as
stated on this Microsoft page:
"OL2001: Palm Synchronization Support Is Not Available for Outlook
2001"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q300647
I was going to suggest that you try using Entourage and had some
instructions on how to sync between Entourage and your unit, but as
you may know, Entourage does not currently support MAPI with Exchange.
Entourage is an PIM application included with Microsoft Office 2001
for Mac. Entourage does sync up with the Palm OS.
Additionally, it looks like there is currently not a conduit that can
be used with Outlook 2001 and the Mac Palm Desktop to sync contacts.
One solution that is probably not an ideal one would be to have the
administrators install a server that works with Exchange servers and
that syncs directly with your Palm OS via an ethernet connection (and
thus bypasses Outlook 2001). But this solution apparently runs about
$200 per user (not including any cable adapters that may be needed):
"Server-Based Synchronization":
http://www.extendedsystems.com/ESI/Products/Mobile+Data+Management+Products/Server-Based+Synchronization/default.htm
With the Sony Clie the answer is pretty much the same thing since it
too runs on a Palm OS. There are solutions for syncing with the
Macintosh versions of Express and Entourage, but not 2001.
You may be able to export your contacts and then load them into Palm
Desktop (and thus your unit), but I understand you are interested in
constantly synching fully with the Outlook 2001 address book, not just
importing. Using the Palm Desktop, you will be able to sync contacts
between the Treo and the Palm Desktop software.
I know this was not the answer you were hoping for, and I apologize
that my original response did not make mention of Outlook 2001. If
you would like me to further research this matter, please let me know
and I will be glad to do so.
