I'm moving to NYC and deciding between 2 buildings. One is Tower 31,
located on 5th and 31st street. The other, is the Regent, at 60th and
Columbus Avenue. Both are v.close to where I'll be working,
Rockefeller Center, and proximity to work is an important criterion
for me. Although I like the Columbus Circle area far better as a
neighborhood than the dingy-looking area Tower 31 is in, I like Tower
31 much more as a building (far better gym, tenant profile more my
liking, cool interiors, better floorplan).

I'm 30, single, and need to know what I should consider in making the
decision. How bad is the area around 31st and 5th and am I right in
thinking it's within striking distance of more fun, satisfying areas
of NYC than is the Columbus Circle area. Other imp. decision factors?

The first thing I would think about is, what do I want most from a
place where I live. I personally want quiet respectful neighbours that
are not going to rob my house while I am away, won't keep me awake all
night with their music and parties and who are generally nice to each
other. If that is your ideal house style go for the Tower 31.

If you are not going to use your house more but are going to spend
most of your time partying and wooing potential partners and enjoying
the lifestyle but spending no time at home go for the columbus circle.
That would be first thoughts, staying in more go for the nicer house
and people (as you will see them more often), going out go for the
nicer area as you will see that more often.

At the end of the day it is just down to personal preference and if
you feel SAFE and HAPPY in the area.

If you like opera, concerts, Central Park, and want to join the NYAC
for athletics, Columbus circle is good.

"Other imp. decision factors?" Are you buying or renting?
