Question ID: 751956
I've already ordered a couch, but am now
deathly afraid that it won't fit into my new apartment. Here's why
this is a little bit tricky. My doorway is curved at the top (like a
rectangle with a semicircle on top of it)and it leads into a very
shallow hallway.

Couch dimensions (inches): 91"x40"x30"
Door dimensions (in): 64" when it starts to curve, about 80" at the
peak of the semicircle.
Hallway depth when you first walk in: 40"

Oh, I forgot the door width, which is 34".

Thanks in advance for the help!

I posted this comment on a question about a sofa and a doorway.

Here's some tips to help you.

The first thing you'll want to do is cover the sofa with a clean
protective sheet (queen or king size fitted sheet works nicely).

- Remove any doors
- Try moving it through without removing legs of sofa
- If necessary, remove legs
- Approach the door like a see-saw
- Have one end of sofa as high as possible
- Have the other end as low as possible - at the same time keep the
sofa tilted at a 45 degree angle - not 90 degree angle
- Place clean pieces of cardboard between the sofa and the door frame
to prevent rubbing
- Tip the furniture and pass it through the doorway at an angle

Or, bring the furniture in through a window - cover sofa with a fitted
sheet before moving through a window.

Good Luck to you!

Set couch on end outside the door. Keeping the top of couch steady,
slide the bottom of couch through the door. If necessary, rotate the
couch or flip it end for end and try again. Also look for any patio
doors or removable windows.

This FAQ is discussed in the book by Douglas Adam.

same thing happend to Dirk Gently in " Holistic Detective Agency"
...It (The Couch)has nothing to do with the story...it's just one of
those funny things.

Tipping the couch on it's back and carrying it in should do fine. You
will have 34" to navigate the 30" couch through....I've seen worse.
