Question ID: 752056
How do I configure two vlans (one for voice and one for data) to use
QoS using all Cisco equipment?

I have two WS-CE500-24PC in different buildings connected to a Cisco
Catalyst 3560-48PS in a central building. I'd like to use the
Network Assistant for configuration if possible. I simply want to
prioritize the voice vlan over the data vlan.

We plan on using Cisco phones but we don't have them installed yet and
won't until after this configuration is verified fuctional. thanks!

Additionally, there will be computers plugged into the Cisco phones so
we would want that computer data traffic to have less priority than
the voice traffic.

I am currently looking into this for you, I welcome others to try too.

Is this information useful as a starting check list?

Hi Keystroke,

Thanks for responding. Yes, that information is a lot what I have
already gathered, except for the last part of the article on DiffServ,
which I believe will not be necessary because we won't be using a
router. Definately 802.1p and 802.1Q.

This is what I have mostly been reading (
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps5528/products_configuration_guide_book09186a00805f89ff.html
and http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6545/products_configuration_example09186a00806da6c9.shtml
) but at some point I get a little lost because it is not a direct
guide to setting up what I want to set up. Thanks!

Hi,

If you trust the cos markings of the phone then that traffic will be
treated with a certain priority through the trunk port to the 3560, if
the CAT500E supports a weighted round robin queue (it most likely does
but whether you can configure it is another matter). You would need
to trust the markings of the CAT500E on the 3560 so that it will be
able to treat traffic accordingly over it's trunk links.

Hope this helps!
