Is there a word --- or could one be coined --- that means 'the fear
of missing something'?

I fear I've missed a lot on Gurgle Ansers lately. My new computer had
to get fixed up in the repair shop for some days; I come back and I've
missed a bloody duel and the impending end of the world, oh my.

What would this word be . . . (something) -phobia ?

If a word has not already been coined I believe we should use

paraleipokatiphobia

Which is the literal Greek translation of

miss something phobia :D

I think I found the same site as Keystroke and the one that troubled
me the most was;

Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

Bees, and Wasps I can understand even spiders, I can understand fear
of heights, death, dark and enclosed spaces and I can sympathise with
all those that suffer from those things.

However the day I walk in a room and see a man with bulging eyes
cowering in the corner with remnants of peanut butter around their
mouth as they grunt and point to a half-empty jar of Sun Pat, I will
despair at the world and "walloons" will be the least of their
problems.

Hi ts!

I speak Greek, so I'll offer these suggestions:

Paraleipsophobia
[from verb "paraleipo" = miss, omit + noun "paraleipsis" = omission]

--This is the probably the most apt.

Other possibles:

Elleipsophobia
[from noun "elleipis" = lack, deficiency]

Sterisiphobia
[from noun "sterisis" = privation ]

Using modern Greek phrases, you could say:

Menopisophobia
[from the expression "meno piso" =fall behind, lag behind]
*nothing to do with menopause!!

Mimouleipseikatiphobia
[from the expresssion "mi mou leipsei kati" = let me not miss (or be
without) something]

Let me know if any of these resonate with you.

Best regards,
jackburton

Thanks for inviting me to post an answer.

A few more suggestions:

exoprogrammato-phobia
= phobia of being out of the program

ektosprogrammatos-phobia
= phobia of being out of the program

thesineaftonektosprogrammatos-phobia
= phobia of putting one's self out of the program

programmoparaleipomeno-phobia
= phobia of being omitted from the program

I sincerely hope you do not suffer from any of the above (or below)
phobias, but if at any time you feel you are missing out on what's
happening here at GA, please seek guidance from a fully qualified GAR
immediately!

Best regards,
jackburton

Isolophobia is the fear of solitude or being alone

Katagelophobia is the fear of ridicule or that we?re talking about you
behind your back

Macrophobia is the fear of long waits and the anxiety you experience
during your time away from us.

Walloonphobia is the fear of the Walloons, which of course has
absolutely nothing to do with your question, but isn?t that just
weird?

If one were to coin a term I suggest these:

Getagripaphobia ? this is the fear of all things unimportant.

Getalifeaphobia ? this is the fear of all things not covered by
Getagripaphobia (a Getagripaphobic typically rolls his eyes at a
Getalifeaphobic).

How?s that?

I initially was afraid to post it as an answer because I suffer from
Jackslapaphobia (the fear of being rated badly).

Hello Timely One

This is your lucky day because I've found:

Orcaphobia (n) A morbid fear of missing something typically
experienced by inhabitants of lonely islands when they are temporarily
cut off from their telephones, radios, tv or computers.

Gaparanoia (n) A morbid fear of missing something typically
experienced by inhabitants of lonely islands when they are unable to
connect up to the Gagalaxy. A chronic form of Orcaphobia (qv).

I am surprised that the normally reliable Tutuzdad missed these.

No wonder that he suffers from Jackslapaphobia. I was so very sorry
when I learned of his problem.

All the Best

Dearest Keystroke:

Walloon: "One of a French-speaking people of Celtic descent
inhabiting southern and southeast Belgium and adjacent regions of
France."

Well, no, I don't suffer from Walloonophobia . . . in fact I think I
may even qualify as a Walloonophile instead. They make lovely
cheeses, you know.

As for your suggestion for "paraleipokatiphobia" . . . uh, well, it's
rather cumbersome, don't you think? And I find it hard to beleive
this is the literal translation from the Greek, eh? In fact, it
sounds Hawaiian to me. Are you sure you consulted the right
dictionary?

Dear johnny_phoenix-ga,

"Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth."

Exactly where is this site you are referring to?

I thought 'arachi' meant 'spiders' . . . could this be 'fear of
spiders and peanut butter sticking to the roof of one's mouth?'

I think the strangest one I EVER heard of was a word . . . can't
remember what it was . . . . . but maybe you could find it for me? . .
. . it meant 'the fear of three-legged stools'.

cheers,

ts

Dear Bryan,

gaparanoia . . . that's very good!

but it really shouldn't be a sub catagory of orcaphobia . . . I
believe gaparanoia has become a worldwide problem at this point . . .

in fact here on Orcatraz it seems hardly anybody even knows about the
GAgalaxy, and I'm glad for that . . . . . . . as it's already too cozy
here on the Rock . . .

cheerios!

O Timely One

It happened to me yesterday.

I lost my Internet Connection for most of the day when there was SO
MUCH that I needed to do.

It was so terrible that I almost chartered a plane to Orcatraz so that
I could beg the use of your machine, etc.

Would you have obliged me?

Oh Poor Bryan I know how you feel.

My world was so empty, I didn't know what to do. I also could not join
the real world for most of Saturday. All my games are internet games,
I felt so lost,

Wow! That spellchecker must be working - or Kemlo has been fooling us all along.

I tend to believe the latter. Clever of him to give up the game by
asking for the spellchecker.

"It was so terrible that I almost chartered a plane to Orcatraz so that

yes, Bryan, of course . . . and I believe the trip would've done you a
world of good!

although if you'd flown into Orcatraz yesterday you would've
encountered the annual 'Fly In' where all manner of flying
contraptions compete for airspace all in one afternoon. It's a good
day to drive around in an armoured vehicle and a hard hat.

Keep this in mind for next year.

and Dear Kemlo,

exactly which world is the Real World again?

your writing has been an interesting challenge for my brain; it's
truly amazing how the message always seems to get across anyway !

 congrats, or . . . yes, perhaps you've been fooling all along . . . ?

* * *

and Dear myoarin,

I'm always curious about your handle

I've always assumed it meant my - oar - in, like 'I'd like to put my
oar in' to the conversation

have I assumed correctly?

of course, the important thing is that you have both oars in . . .

cheers to all!

You got it right, TSpacette. One of my few - very few - claims to
fame is being a competent oarsman, better, of course, decades ago, but
still pulling.
When I registered here, I had already looked around a bit and reckoned
that's what I'd be doing, figuratively speaking.

Cheers, MyOarIn

absephobia (absent phobia) or absaphobia?

What about this one: absepobia (missing the 'h' which would,
ironically, scare people with this phobia). hehehe...
