Question ID: 752338
I have an Apple eMac (2005 - Serial # RM54339PSCH) that doesn't have
the factory Bluetooth build-to-order option, and I'd like to add
internal Bluetooth capability using the internal Bluetooth card (Apple
part number 922-6530).

My questions are:

1) Is this possible?

and

2) Does this require a separate internal antenna?

So far, I've discovered that the iMac G5 requires a distinct midplane
logic board assembly in order to accommodate internal Bluetooth, but I
haven't been able to find out whether the factory eMac logic board
will accept the internal Bluetooth card (and/or antenna) without being
replaced or modified.

Thanks for your help!

Hello Pcamigo,

It appears the answer is yes - but I have made an inquiry (should get
an answer sometime tomorrow) to determine the exact parts needed to do
this.

As a side note, it may be cheaper to get a USB powered bluetooth
module. Would you be interested in an answer that does this as well
(if the internal option falls through)?

Hello Maniac,

Actually, I already have an external Bluetooth adapter that works
well, but I was hoping for a more 'elegant' (read: invisible :)
solution.

Thanks!

Hello Pcamigo,

I got an incomplete response from my inquries - the last response from
a supplier basically indicated that they could not find any
documentation on Apple's web site for performing that upgrade.

Since you already have an external interface, it appears you are "out
of luck" unless you are willing to do some wiring. The idea that comes
to mind is to solder a short cable / USB socket to one of your
existing USB ports on the eMac an mount it internally in some "free
space". This may also "not work" if the case has too much shielding
(even though its plastic, there may be metal in the case to meet the
FCC interference restrictions).

Its not something I would recommend but it does sound feasible.
