All VW dealers have access to an official list of VW Rabbits in
transit as they are shipped from Germany to U.S. dealers. For each
car, the list specifies the VIN number, delivery date, name of dealer
receiving the car, and options - 2dr or 4dr, AT or 5-speed, color,
etc.

I want to get web access to this list, so I can find a dealer in the
Seattle area that is scheduled to receive the car I want. Thus far,
I've been jerked around by dealers who promise to get a Rabbit
allocated to another dealer, but the other dealer won't do this. So,
I want to get direct access to the official list.

Please provide the link to this list and any password required. All
suggestions welcome.

It is highly unlikely that this type of information is acquired via
"web access". The software and access is probably only available at
the VW dealerships with their custom company computers. But, I have
bought a few vehicles by the method you are describing. If you are
not having success at a particular dealership, just keep calling
around to ones in your area until you find one that has good customer
service. If you are willing to put a $500 to $1000 deposit on an
exact vehicle (VIN already or not) most dealerships will reserve it
for you before its even built. Just tell the dealership exactly the
model, colors, engine, transmissions, etc.. that you want, and they
should be able to request one from the factory. You may have to wait
several months to get the exact vehicle you are looking for, but it is
usually well worth the wait to get it the way that you want it! You
will, after all, be driving it for at least a few years.
Unfortunately, by using this method to buy your car, the dealer will
probably be less willing to give you a really good deal. Just save a
few more pennies and get the 2007 R32 (just my favorite little VW).
