Why won't my computer CD drive D: recognize the presence of DVD+RW

You have answered the question yourself.

Why won't my

CD DRIVE

recognize the presence of DVD+RW when it is inserted.

CD drives CANNOT read DVDs, the laser lengths and media formats are
completely different.

cannot be read in CD only Drives.

cd drives usually cannot read dvds.

click on start >> run >> devmgmt.msc 

clcik on plus sign to the left of cd-dvd drives in the list and please
post the full name of the device that u see in there,

check if it is a dvd r or dvd rw drive
