Dear Dnarula,

The waterless had sanitizer market appears to have been worth $60
million in 1998 and $70 million in 1999. Its main suppliers are GoJo,
American Medical, Vi-Jon, and Dial.

Below are exerpts from industry publications.
-----------------------------------------
“Gojo Industries (Akron, OH) is considered to be the pioneer of the
$60-mil waterless hand sanitizer category with its Purell hand
sanitizer. Gojo accounts for 45% of this segment.”

three body wash brands ranked by sales in dollars through mass
merchandisers, food and drug stores, reported as of December 1998,
with percent change from the previous year,” page 101+, December 1998
------------------------------------------------------
“GoJo Industries Inc (Akron, OH) launches its Purell waterless hand
sanitizer in the Purell Dry Hands Formula Instant Hand Sanitizer
variety that contains moisturizers and skin softeners. The launch of
Purell Hand Sanitizer to consumers (it was previously available to
plant and factory workers) in 1996 is said to be responsible for the
development of a $70 mil category.”

“In the recent past the small but growing market has attracted such
suppliers as GOJO Industries Inc., American Medical Industries and
Vi-Jon Laboratories Inc.
Now one of the heavyweights of the overall soap business, Dial Corp.,
is weighing in with a waterless hand sanitizer under the Dial brand.”

Hello dnarula,

This is the only information I was able to find.

"PURELL is the #1 selling brand of instant hand sanitizer with a 64.4%
market share (4 wks. ending 4/21/02)."

Here's a bit of information, though they don't bother to specify their
source of their data. According to an article at:

http://www.wtsnews.com/WTS_News_page_2.htm

"Hand sanitizers like Purrell are a $50 million a year business."

Hi,

For anyone else who might pick up the ball, I spoke with with someone
from marketing from GoJo, the makers of Purell. They are a privately
held corportaion. They have the market size info, but do not share the
info publicly.

An article from International Bioscience Corp promoting their
PreventX® and Coleman® products claims the world market is $2 billion,
but provides to sources for their claim.

A recent article on the history of alcohol-based hand sanitizers also
provides several other leads at:

Hope this helps!
