Question ID: 752929
The TV broadcast in Australia of the 1992 Winter Olympics from
Albertville, France featured a chilling but beautiful pan-pipe tune
that was used during each day's opening/closing titles and often
during the broadcast itself. Its frequency of use leads me to believe
that it was part of the official music for the games and not something
added by the Australian broadcaster. I am hoping to find the name of
the tune and the composer, and possibiy the availability of it on CD.
I have the official music CD from the Albertville games published by
COJO (Comité d'Organisation pour des Jeux Olympiques) however it is
not on that CD.

Thanks Cyntha, however I already have significant video coverage of
the games which includes the music in question. It's the piece of
music specifically I'm looking for, title and composer if possible so
I can obtain a professional recording.

Will go through the Mars Laser discography and update here within 24
hours - thanks Pinkfreud.

Much of the music in the US broadcasts of the 1992 Winter Olympics was
composed by Mars Lasar. You might want to listen to clips from various
Mars Lasar CDs to see whether anything sounds familiar.

You might want to start with "Olympus," apparently the albums from
which cuts were used for the CBS Olympic broadcasts. Original release
date was January, 1992. I have listened to the tracks on Amazon, and
caught a snatch of pan flute at the end of the clip of "Awakenings."
But the theme could be excerpted from anywhere in a track, so you may
need to find a copy of the cd.

From Mars Lasar's site:

"Tracks from "Olympus" were used during the 1992 Winter Olympics. In
fact. an official wrote me about how my work captured the spirit of
the games."

"Mars' album Olympus was used by CBS during their broadcast of the
1992 Winter Olympics from Albertville, France. The record was a "Top
Ten" on Billboard's New Age Chart in the same year."
