Is SF any closer to getting citywide wi-fi?  What's the latest news on this?  

The question behind this is 'will our boys have to pay for internet
service when they get there?'   Do you have any idea how it will work?
 The computer my son is taking with him is my old iBook, which has
both dial-up and Airport capability.   Is there anything we should
know now to get this system ready?

Bonus question on a different topic:  here in the Pacific North Wet we
have PCC, which I
think stands for the Puget Community Co-Op, a great chain of health
food co-ops all up and down the coast of WA and ORE.  Does San
Francisco have anything like that?   I remember a very high-end health
food store (almost a supermarket) in Mill Valley; what about the city?
  Any near the Northbeach / Fort Mason area?

Thanks for asking for me again. I?m surprised your boys still haven?t
left. At least they missed out on our recent heat wave.

I don?t think they?ll have any trouble finding free WiFi access in San
Francisco. The City is moving forward with its plans for universal
access and I?m providing you with updates so you can follow the saga.
In the meantime, I?m also providing you with directories for finding
hot spots.

There are several food coops in San Francisco and they?re not too hard
to access. I don?t know if they?re as big as your PCC but they?re well
established and have a long track record. In addition, I?ve also
included links to San Francisco?s farmers? markets. I think these will
provide access to wonderful fresh fruits and vegetables.

I hope that the information I?ve provided will be helpful. I?m glad to
see you active on Google Answers again.

to deliver free WiFi to San Francisco?and they don't like everything
they're seeing.

Earlier this month, the city approved a joint proposal from Google
(Research) and Earthlink (Research) to turn San Francisco into a giant
wireless hot spot. Users will have two choices: They can pay Earthlink
$20 a month, or get free access from Google if they're willing to
tolerate a slower connection and Google's ads. They'll also have to
sign in each time they use the network.

EarthLink and Google to offer citywide Wi-Fi access, and we're
thrilled about that. A key part of this project has been keeping
citizens apprised of our progress and answering questions along the
