Hello, I am seeking a tool that can gather detailed information (system info, application info, hardware info) about all PCs in a network from a central PC like what Belarc Advisor does on a single PC. |
|
There is no answer at this time. |

I think sisoft sandra can do some of that, as long as all computers are windows and loaded with it. |

http://www.loginter.net/en/loginventory.php This company's software has a method of installing on a main machine or a server and then the information about the network is gathered from every machine. You have to pay for this software but you have to pay for obvious reasons, like you said, belarc could do this but it is not a network solution. Hope this answers your question |

If you are using windows and are the administrator, in Control Panel; Admin...Tools; click Computer Management. Here you can connect to, view and edit vital PC info for PCs on the network. If you are running Mac, you need to buy Apple Remote Desktop (some Macs come bundled with it). Make sure its installed on all the network computers and away you go. The apple web site have more info and tutorials. www.apple.com |

SNMP tools might be (partially) what you're looking for. Try doing a search for SNMP software, I don't have any particular recommendations as I haven't worked very much with it. |

for a significant number of machines, I would recommend that you look into WMI |

Thank you very edinatl-ga & chrislomax-ga for your suggestions. rynhaj-ga I did the following: - for PC1 I went to Start > Run and typed \\PC2 and pressed Enter. - I entered and administrator user name and password and pressed Enter. - So I accessed PC2 through Windows explorer of PC1. - I opened Computer Management on PC1 and selected Connect to Another Computer. - I typed PC2 and pressed Enter. - I brought PC2's stuff. - I expanded Storage and clicked on Disk Management. - An error message of "The RPC server is unavailable" occurred. However, both of the PCs are in the same workgroup with the RPC service enabled. Any solution? |

I would Suggest you look at Dameware NT Utilities which will give you a large amount of information of all NT/2000/XP/2003 based machines on a network, this also ties nicley into Active Directory & have a great remote control tool. There is 30 trial copy available from http://www.dameware.com Cost for a single user is about US$289.00 I would also suggest that you download a copy of etherreal which will list the unique mac addresses for every device on your network which will cover you for network printers, unix/linux & Mac's if you have any of these. |

Can you be more specific about what information you need. I likely have scripts that will get the information using WMI as long as you have Remote access to the PC. Is Windows Firewall enabled and possibly the cause of the RPC errors you see? or perhaps another firewall? |

beacie69, good suggestion. I'll try it out. victag, I'm looking mainly for: 1. The existence of a PC. 2. The OS (I've got Windows only). 3. Whether the anti-virus is installed. 4. Whether it's configured to pull the updates from my WSUS server. 5. The TCP/IP configurations. And secondarily for 6. MAC address. 7. Manufacturer & model. 8. Serial number. 9. CPU model & speed. 10. Memory size, speed & slots both free & occupied. If any one would find a solution for the RPC error, I would highly appreciate. |

Might I also suggest GFI's Languard Network Scanner? http://www.gfi.com/lannetscan/lanscanfeatures.htm |
