Hi mcginn,

I have e-mails out to several journals looking for your articles, but a little
extra info would help. Are you in commercial or residential construction?
What area of the country? What specifically would you like to know about
closeout? Is substantial completion an area of concern to you? Thanks for any
help. I'm on it. Cath-ga

Mchihhn,

thanks for responding. I was thinking you needed trade journal
articles aimed
at construction contractors. I found a couple of those, one on
ConstructionEducation.com (
http://constructioneducation.com/May98page38.htm )
and another at http://class.et.byu.edu/cm415/lesson.20.doc .
There's a really basic description of the process from the facility's
point of
view at http://info.med.yale.edu/fdo/pmc/process/closeout.html (this
written
for hospital construction.)What kind of journals should I be looking
in? What's the title of your paper? I'd like to work with you on this!

thanks for your replay. the first two links are not working. my point
is "Toward an Information Hand-over Guidelines for the Assets
Owners".please search in academic journals under the subject
"construction management" or "civil engineering"

Thankyou! I got your clarification. Sorry the first link does appear lousy;
Instead go to http://www.constructioneducation.com and put in 'project closeout'
in the keyword slot, and hit search. It will take you to the article.
I'll keep looking through the academic journals and also fix the second
link. Cath-ga

Dear mcgihhn3,

I’ve given it a good shot, but am not sure you’ll be satisfied.
The best information I found was in books, not in journals,
as you requested. The two books below appear to contain
chapters on project close-out. Both are available on Amazon.com
and are rather pricey.

1)Total Construction Project Management, by George J. Ritz.

A Review from Book News, Inc. says: "A practical guide for
construction managers on how to complete construction projects as
specified, on schedule, and within budget, by gaining control over the
entire construction management process, from initiation to close-out
of the completed facility. (Annotation copyright Book News, Inc.
Portland, Or)

2) Construction Project Administration (6th Edition)by Edward R. Fisk

Book News, Inc. says this book: "Covers all information needed by
design professionals, project managers, contract administrators, and
resident engineers or inspectors, laying out steps for conducting
on-site project administration. Contains chapters on areas including
the project delivery system, resident inspection office
responsibilities, documentation, construction laws and labor
relations, meetings and negotiations, materials, claims and disputes,
and project closeout. Includes chapter problems, sample forms, and b&w
photos of building sites. Fisk is a construction consultant in Orange,
CA, and teaches short courses for the University of California and the
University of Washington." -- Copyright © 1999 Book News, Inc.,

I am not able to obtain an index to the journal “Construction
Management and Economics.” I think if you do get one at your
University library, that publication would contain an article relevant
to your paper. The articles I did find below may contain references to
closeout procedures. (Some are articles, some just book reviews which
can point you to a relevant book.)

Strategic Management in Construction, 2nd Edition; Tony Walker;
Construction Management and Economics, London; Jul-Aug 2002; Vol. 20,
Iss. 5; pg. 457

Learning from Construction Failures; Malcolm Hollis; Construction
Management and Economics, London; Jul-Aug 2002; Vol. 20, Iss. 5; pg.
458

Construction Law: Liability for the Construction of Defective
Buildings; John Murdoch; Construction Management and Economics,
London; Apr/May 2002; Vol. 20, Iss. 3; pg. 297

Internet Goes To Work For Builders; Amy K. Larsen; InternetWeek,
Manhasset; Nov 16, 1998; pg. PG.26

Developing a theory of construction problem solving; Li, Heng;
Construction Management and Economics, London; Nov 1998; Vol. 16, Iss.
6; pg. 721, 7 pgs

I am posting this as a comment, rather than an answer, since I’m not
certain
you’ll be satisfied. If you are, let me know, and I’ll post it as a
paying answer. If you have further direction you want to give me, I
could try that as well.

Good luck on your paper!! Cath-ga
