Question ID: 753622
Since I came to San Francisco a year ago, I have been very unlucky
with my car. I had its body scratched numerous times, hit road dents
and bumps, had a branch break my windshield, etc.

Just recently, another car hit me on the highway for the 4th time.
That's when I decided to tell my insurance company (bless them!) to
just collect money on my behalf and not to use it on body work any more.
Long car repairs have always created very stressful times for me.

Now I want to cancel my current car insurance, sell my car, and
start renting a different car bi-weekly, say, from THRIFTY.

Their suitable base rate is about 110$ per week, which I am more
than willing to pay- if nothing else, for having the opportunity to drive 25
different cars per year :-)

However, so far, I could find no information about how much I would
need to pay for my insurance in such case.
Since I had really good experience with professional answers here, I
decided to ask you, guys, for help.

====================================
So, at last here is my question:
If I decided to rent a different car every two weeks for about 3 years
in a row, what would I need to pay for insurance?

Thank you :-)

PS I am a bit unsecure about my decision in general, and if you can
change that ( or talk me out of it), I would give you a nice tip as
well :-)

PPS
(Though to be honest, I don't know why it would matter =>) I am an
average driver with zero tickets and no "at-fault" accidents.

Have you considered ZipCar:

There is no additional charge for insurance coverage.

What do you think?

I heard of ZIPCAR, but I have the following reasons not to choose them
(at least, for now):
- I actually live/work in Redwood City, about 30 miles from where
their cars can be found.
- I would like to make long trips on weekends (longer than 125 miles anyway)
- They are much more expensive than THRIFTY, DOLLAR, HERTZ, AVIS etc.

Hello sp007c-ga,

Have you talked to your insurance company about your plans? It seems
that non-owner auto insurance might be the way to go. Would you like
me to find additional information for you for this option?

Insuring a Car You Don't Own

I look forward to your clarification.

You're right, I should just talk to my StateFarm agent. I just thought
there might be something online.

Can't you use an American Express or a gold card? They usually include
coverage of some sort. Contact your card issuer.

I guess "coverage of some sort" is correct. Can I somehow get
everything (incl. comprehension, uninsured driver, etc.) though?

As I said, contact yuor credit card issuer. Each one is different. My
gold cards all have complete coverage as does my Amex, but yours may
not.
