Hello bsktbll54321-ga,

I was surprised at how few of these there are available. While there
are many that have a "line in" from an mp3 player, there are few that
play CD-R with mp3. I found three of them for you:

#1: Grundig Eton Ego 4000 Plus Portable CD / MP3 Player with Built-In
Removable Speakers (Reviews aren't that great, people complain about
bad radio reception)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008V6TI/
Available on eBay (used):

#2: Cambridge SoundWords Radio CD 740 - C17RCNB:
http://www.abtelectronics.com/product/17002.html

#3: Pure Chronos DAB/CD Alarm Clock (availability appears limited to
the UK): http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/pure-chronos-dabcd-alarm-clock-190639.php

#4: Roadstar CD-R4611UDMP/R Radio CD/MP3 (again seems available to UK
mostly): http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/321260/art/roadstar/cdr-4611udmp-r-radio-cd.html

I hope this meets your needs. Please let me know if you require any clarification,

Search Strategy:

"mp3 alarm clocks"
pure chronos dab/cd alarm clock
"alarm clock" mp3 cd-r
CDR-4611UDMP/R
"alarm clock" mp3

I am aware of the ones with "line in." However are there alarm clocks
under $100 that play mp3 formatted CDs? If not what is the best alarm
clock out there that plays CDs

Hello bsktbll54321-ga,

After extensive searching, I came up with four that met the
requirements of your original question. I was unable to find any for
under $100, and it is very unlikely that this is possible since this
is a very niche market at the moment.

"Best" is subjective and my answer to that would be the Cambridge
SoundWorks Radio CD 740. It is also pricey though. It is in high
demand and is available on eBay for about $220.

You may not be able to find many "alarm clocks" that do this but I am
sure you can find cheap stereo minisystems that play mp3 CDs and also
have a built in alarm function.

Here is an under $100 example I got off froogle:

Hello frankcorrao-ga,

You are correct, but technically those aren't alarm clocks that play
mp3 cds, which I believe is what the customer is looking for.
