I'm looking for some scripting code to use with WinXP that will change
the 'Stand by' behavior on my laptop.

I usually keep it set to activate 'Stand by' when closing the lid, but
every now and then I want to temporarily change it. I find all the
steps to do this somewhat tedious and have been trying to write a
script to do it automatically... but can't seem to figure it out.

So: I would like to make a shortcut such that when I double-click it
the setting found in 'Power Options Properties'-->'Advanced: Power
Buttons-When I Close the Lid of my Portable Computer' will toggle
between 'Do Nothing' and 'Stand by'.

aargh ok i didnt even search GA before submitting. then i found this:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=706167

pretty much does it.

but maybe i could add this request: a way to make the bacth files run
from a *single shortcut* such that double-clicking switches from one
setting to the other.
and a way to hide the cmd window so it runs invisibly? thatd rock.

Hello textured,
I can help you with this no problem. Actually, I had to do something
quite similar recently. If you'd want I could make a little proggy
that sits in your tray or desktop such that when you activate it your
laptop would not be powered down when the lid closed. Then return to
normal behaviour when it was deactivated. No batch files needed. Let
me know if you'd be interested.
Thanks,
Aaron
