I have a computer running Windows 2000 (5.00.2195, SP4). When you use
a fill-in window (like the one on Google's home page) it remembers
what you've typed. This is fine as far as it goes, but it remembers
everything including mispeling, ytpographical errors, and the like. Is
there a way to edit it? I kinda like the feature but want to winnow it
down to, say, ten things (you should see my Craigslist search
window!).

Thanks!

PS Will this question fall victim to Bryan's locking suspicions? Google!

I assume that you are using Internet Explorer. If not, please tell us
which browser you use.

The "autocomplete" feature of IE is sometimes a nuisance. To delete
only a certain item, you can highlight it and press the "delete" key.
You can customize the use of "autocomplete" if you wish. Instructions
are here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/customizing/autocomplete.mspx

Does this help? If so, I'll be glad to repost as an official answer.
If not, more info from you would be very helpful.

Best,
Pink

Pink--

Yes, it is internet explorer. I'll check on the deleting tomorrow and report back!

Mark,

I am tickled Pink to have been able to help one of GA's most
distinguished commenters. As I mentioned below, I didn't know about
this until I tried it. It seemed worth a shot, though. I learned long
ago that poking at keys on the keyboard is unlikely to activate an
autodestruct mechanism and "Mission Impossible" music, so I'm pretty
bold in trying things that I think might work.

For the record:

To delete only a certain item, you can highlight it and press the
"delete" key. You can customize the use of "autocomplete" if you wish.
Instructions are here:

YOU might not activate autodestruct, but I am positive I have! Many thanks.
