I am looking for a list of names (including enlisted men) of the May,
1860 "last muster" role call of the Gloucester Militia. Various Gloucester
militia 'sub-groups' included the "Muddy Toes", "Ragged Tags". etc.
The muster took place at the Roaring Springs Plantation in Gloucester,
Virginia. Major Page was the Adjutant (staff officer responsible for
adminstrative duties of this militia and may have created this list).
Specific names anticipated are Washington Hogg and J. R. (James
Robert) Hogg. Lists created later than 1900 are not wanted as they
would probably be based on memory and would be incomplete.

Dear monsterthecat,

Just to make sure I'm searching in the right direction: Do you mean
the 21st Virginia Militia of which Warner Throckmorton Jones (of
Warner Hall, Gloucester County) was Colonel in 1860?

Regards,
Scriptor

Mmmmmmmm. Colonel Warner Thockmorton Jones could have been one of
the company commanders under General W. B. Taliaferro (the commanding
general of the Gloucester Militia in 1860) -- I don't know. Also
spelling correction, one of the milita 'sub-groups' was the Ragged
Stags, not Ragged Tags as I stated earlier.

mtc-ga,

Please have a look at this link about 'Hogg' listings in the VA muster:

http://ajax.lva.lib.va.us/F/FIF2C52APX6UDH7BHMMBEQ7U626HPV19U9TK2JDDRPYI766MYX-02197?func=full-set-set&set_number=001494&set_entry=000002&format=999

You may be aware of this already, but if not, it seems that the
musters were post-1900, in general.

There is a similar listing for James R Hogg, as well as a Civil War
pension record for him.

Does that help, at all?

The militia muster records I referred to in my question involve
Gloucester county men's militia service PRIOR to the start of the
Civil War and after the War of 1812. I already have the Civil War
service records and pension records of Washington Hogg and James
Robert (J.R.) Hogg and these records are not part of my question to be
answered. I am aware that the Gloucester county militia 'sub-groups'
i.e., Muddy Toes, Ragged Stags, etc., were incorporated into more
formal Confederate Army companies once the Civil War started.
