I'll give you a bonus -- here are 11 functions of political parties:

1. To enable people of similar political belief to join a common
cause.

2. To organize the administration of government.

3. To determine and/or influence the names that are appear on the
ballot in elections.

4. To promote an ideology and/or to promote a particular person (such
as in the case of a party organized by a charismatic individual).

5. To provide alternate points of view for citizens of a democratic
society.

6. To provide a connection between citizens and the government.

7. To direct the formulation of public policy.

8. To exercise political power.

9. To provide an opposition to government policy (in two-party and
multiparty systems).

10. To help interest groups attain influence.

11. To provide a forum for political debate.

I offered a few extra because they overlap somewhat and also vary
somewhat with the type of government.  This list is based on my
background as a person who earned a degree in political science and
who worked as a journalist for a number of years.
