Question ID: 755079
I am looking for a location for a high end children's business. I
need a list of the areas within 20 miles of Sellersville, PA 18960
that will be a good location for the business.

My idea is to get the list of the zip codes sorted by average wealth /
household income and get another list of zip codes sorted by total
number of school age children (approximately age 7-16). Then combine
the 2 zip code lists to look for zip codes that are both above average
wealth and above average population of children. (Total number of
children is more important to me than % of population). This should
give me some good locations for the business.

If you have alternative ideas on how to generate a good list of areas,
please request clarification. I am open to other ideas. If you are
unsure of whether something meets my needs, please request
clarification before posting an answer. Thank you

In another GA question -
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=753746 there was some
confusion as to what is meant by wealthy zip code.

As an example, I am interested in zip codes with the highest
percentage of households earning $75,000 per year or more. This is
just a guideline and I realize data may not be broken out that way,
but I wanted to be clear as to the intention of my question.

There are 173 zip codes within a 20 mile radius of zip code 18960.

Because of the work involved I suggest that you raise the price of
your question or request income and population data for fewer zip
codes.

For example for zip code 18944

Median household income in 1999 (dollars) $58,868

Total Population 21,214
Under 5 years 1,527
18 years and over 15,188
65 years and over 2,184

Therefore there are 2,315 children age 5-17

Bobbie,
I am actually working on this project at the same time as you. My
list of zip codes contains 157, but I did not include NJ, so your
number sounds about right to me. I've seen your answer to the
question mentioned in my clarification with the adjusted gross income
by zip code and was thinking of doing a lookup table and sorting by
highest income within the 20 mile radius. If I did that grunt work,
would the question be more answerable? (You would take my list of high
income zip codes near 18960 and tell me which ones have large # of
school children.) Let me know. Thanks

Yes, the question be more answerable if you gave me your list of high
income zip codes near 18960 I would tell you which ones have large
number of children from 5 to 17 years old.

I located a better place to look up population data.

Here are the results for Zip code 18944

Male:
           5 to 9 years 910
           10 to 14 years 901
           15 to 17 years 536
Female:
           5 to 9 years 815
           10 to 14 years 854
           15 to 17 years 483

Would this format be satisfactory for each zip code you give me?

Bobbie,
I have gone through the data from the IRS tables for income by zip
code and it is highly suspect. Based on looking at a few zip codes
that I am familiar with, the data does not seem too accurate. So,
unless you have a different source for wealth by zip code, I may need
to readjust this question.
Let me know if you have any other ideas for getting a list of good
locations near Sellersville, PA for a high end children's business.
Thanks

Here?s the list of zip codes within the radius of 20 miles.
http://www.allplaces.us/dfz.cgi?s=18960&rad=20

Why don?t you use the U.S. Census Bureaus FactFinder for the income data?

Enter the zip code to obtain income
Median household income in 1999 (dollars) or Median family income in 1999 (dollars)
http://factfinder.census.gov/home/saff/main.html?_lang=en

When you have the list of zip codes of your interest I would use a
different resource for the age data.

As I mentioned earlier, this would be the format for Zip code 18944.

Male:
           5 to 9 years 910
           10 to 14 years 901
           15 to 17 years 536
Female:
           5 to 9 years 815
           10 to 14 years 854
           15 to 17 years 483

What do you think?
