As you probably remember, the impeachment and subsequent trial of Bill
Clinton was a long, drawn-out affair. The following are the two best
resources I could find that answer your question:

This is a collection of articles and other background from Time

information about the key players including those in the various

This is a great resource from CNN.com. All the major events of the
scandal and trial are listed, and if you click on the dates how can
read news stories from those days. Among those news stories are ones
involving all three branches of government.

And yes, I believe the system worked (although surely others will
disagree). The process brought out the facts that wouldn't have come
out otherwise, and the finality of the Senate vote pretty much brought
an end to rancor. One of the purposes of a trial is to bring finality
to a matter, and that was accomplished. Both the nation and the
political process survived what could have been disastrous under some
other systems of government.
