Hello,

I'm after infomation re: standard(s) relating to the frequency of
smoke alarms. I'm aware of the frequency of many smoke alarms, and
I'm also aware that there are smoke alarms for the hearing impaired
that operate at a lower frequency.  What I'm interested is;
=> Is there a standard that states acceptable smoke alarm frequency
range(s) and if so, what is it & what is the frequency range(s)?
I'm asking from Australa but the standards info does not have to be
specific to Australia - it could be another country or even a global
(if this exists).

Cheers,

Simon

Simon,

From what I can see, there are no particular standards regarding
frequency of smoke alarms, though there may be decible standards (it's
hard to know for certain because the standards themselves are for-sale
documents costing hundreds of dollars).

A recent US government "audubility review" for smoke alarms
recommended lower frequencies or even human voice alerts in some
cases. From the absence of any mention of frequency standards -- and
from the overall context -- it appears that no standards exist in the
US:

Other documents I saw indicate that the standards that do exist are,
well, pretty standardized internationally, so my quess is that there
are no frequency standards in Australia either.

With this as background, what sort of information can we provide for
you in order to best answer your question?
