I'm looking for the name of a song that my mother used to play in her
car in the early eighties. I know very little about it except that it
was sort of mowtowny, souly pop music sung by a female singer with a
line in it about a man that the singer thought was a Dr Jekyll but
turned out to actually be a Mr Hyde. I think the singer was black, and
I remember that my mother had albums by Deniece Williams, Randy
Crawford and Dionne Warwick. I think this is genuinely an impossible
question to answer, but I would be incredibly happy if someone could
help me answer it. |

re these the lyrics you remember?
Duplicated man, inside, double tied
Prisoner, he's back to back, face to face
Mirrored shadows always changing place
Separated man himself he divides
Opposite needs he can't see where to hide
A single double side - Jekyll and Hyde
This man was good, he was calm
He'd never do any harm
Gentle soul as you may see
As caring as he could be.
If these aren't the correct lyrics, can you remember any other of the
lyrics of the song? Anything may help.
Looking forward to hearing your views.
Best regards,
Rainbow

No - I'm afraid those aren't the lyrics in question. As far as I know
it's not from the Jekyll and Hyde musical. I *think* the line with
Jekyll and Hyde in it was something literally like, "I thought you
were a Jekyll, but you're just Mr Hyde" or something like that. It was
definitely something with Hyde at the end of a line and definitely
organised so that there was an 'i thought you were X but you were Y'
sort of structure. I really wish I could give you more information
than I have, but I'm almost totally stuck.

With no additional lyrics to work on, I haven't been able to find the
song you have described. If you can remember any other lyrics, please
let us know.
