How many days in a row can a company such as Wal-Mart (Sams Club)
force you to work without over working you? I always thought 6 days
in a row is the limit? Wal-Mart does not have a union, does this effect anything?

Ever try being an associate in a corporate law firm.? There's no limit
on days or hours. But, people know what they're getting into. For
$145,000 + bonus a for your first year out of law school, I suppose
it's not bad.

I agree, 145+ a year sounds great! well worth working as many days or
hours (reasonably) but if you do know what your getting your self
into, than it really should not come to be much of a surprise.
Wal-Mart however, does not nearly pay this amount in a year, maybe not
even in 7-9yrs as a regular "floor partner/cashier". As a full time
college student, I can not afford to work 10 days in a row. Which is
what a Sam's Club manager told me I had to do and was perfectly legal.
Than on the other hand, I can not afford to lose my job, my only
income to pay off my school books, tuition and dorm.

I believe you are misinterpreting the law. As I understand it (and I
am no lawyer) as an hourly employee you must get at least a day off
every seven days (if you work 8 hour shifts) and work no more than 40
hours a week. If you work over 40 hours you get overtime pay.

Your employer can schedule your days off at the begining of a week
(Sunday, Monday), have you work 5 days (Tuesday through Saturday) one
week. The next week he can schedule you to work Sunday through Friday
and give you Saturday off. This will give have you working 11 days in
a row but he has complied with all the regulations, since in a two eek
period you worked no more than 6 days in any given week.
