Question ID: 756038
Neither of my burners will write although they will read what is
already on an old disk. I found this strange that the 2 should
suddenly not write then discovered the DVD/CD writer on my husbands
laptop was doing exactly the same - the only common denominator was we
both downloaded the latest lot of Microsoft patches! My system
information is: Type:	Windows XP Professional ; Service Pack 2
Version:	Uniprocessor Free 5.1.2600
Service Pack:	Service Pack 2.0

These 3 drives had been functioning perfectly prior to this.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. With thanks

J

I did uninstall the updates to no avail. Not keen on uninstalling a
large number though.

I'd be more inclined to go through the START button, select "Help and
Support" and look for a CD/DVD troubleshooter. It's probably in "Fix a
Problem" somewhere.

Thank you for your comment - I have tried the Help again to no avail.
My drives can read but cannot write. What does come up is: D:\ or
E:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function - this comment on both
computers.
I appreciate your help with this problem.

Thank you all for your advice but after days of frustration have
actually fixed it myself. Uninstalled Nokia Suite (which was also
installed the week of the Microsoft updates) and did a reinstall of
InCD. Hard to know which software caused the problem but am relieved
it is sorted.
Therefore do not require problem solving for this. Thanks again.

J,

This comment doesn't begin to solve your CD/DVD burning problem,
however it is certainly an answer to your problem.

Quit burning CD's and DVD's.

Since the appearance of FLASH DRIVES, I have never burned another CD
or DVD. I have never missed CD's. They're obsolete.

Flash Drives are cheap, you can write to them without any software,
they're portable drives. Drag & drop, copy and paste, --anywhere.
Simple.

I agree Flash drives are great - I have one but the CD and DVD burnes
are required when I have to burn to whatever drive for my clients (and
the kids). But agree flash drives are the way to go.

With thanks.
