Question ID: 756232
I am considering purchasing a Samsung LN-S3292D flat panel HDTV to
utilize as a computer monitor. Will it work well? (ie. for computer
gaming and Microsoft Office applications coupled with a high
performance GPU like the Geoforce 7800GTX2 e.g.) Any thoughts would be
appreciated.

Scaling / Resolution are always the biggest concern when dealing with
computer displays like this. It is going to look best when the signal
coming from the computer is in the native resolution for the display.
The native resolution for the display you mentioned is: "HD-grade
1366(H) x 768(V)"
http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plasma-computer-monitor-17.html
http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/LCDTV/files/lns3292_final.pdf

Most new video cards can have an output of: 1280 X 768. This of
course if very close to the displays resolution, but not exactly.
This resolution is actually the 15:9 aspect ratio vs. the 16:9 of the
display that you are looking at. This would have a small, perhaps not
even noticeable effect on the display quality. But I don't think you
will have to worry about this.

Your video card has an "Integrated HDTV encoder provides analog
TV-output (Component/Composite/S-Video) up to 1080i resolution".
http://www.nvidia.com/object/7_series_techspecs.html

This means that your output signal can be in HD 1080i from your video
card. With your video card you be happy with any high quality
display.

Most systems like this are unsatisfactory due to the video card, not
the display. I think you have a good card for this purpose.

I think that the Samsung would be an excellent choice. It has some
great features. I believe that with the quality of your video card
and this TV will make for a great system!

Please let me know if you require any further information by posting a
request for clarification.

Thanks!
