I've got a laptop for a manager in my organisation. It's new and the
Outlook is configured with the internet address of the mail server,
because he needs sometimes to send & download emails from home.
This is not the only case with this configuration, however, sometimes
when he clicks send/receive button and after one minutes (the default
time-out period), he receives an error message stating that the
waiting time to connect to the server has timed out.
When I increase the time-out, the frequency of this error decreases.
I'm sure there is no virus on the machine and since this problem
happens with this particular user only, I think there may be some
thing wrong with his network adapter such as lots of bad packets. How
can I find out whether the network adapter works fine or not?
The user is on a network with a good connection to the headquarters
where the mail server resides. Also, when I brought his laptop to the
headquarters for check-up, I noticed that, most of the time, when I
download emails, the Local Area Connection icon in the system tray
shows that the cable is unplugged and then it shows it's connected.
This behaviour is repeated several times until all emails had been
downloaded. |
