My Main PC on the same wireless network works find (suggesting
configuration problem on the laptop) Laptop is XP Home SP 2. I can
ping it ok.
Problem seems to be for several other sites as well (www.musofinder.com)
I've run every anti-virus cleaner I can find (I use McAfee)
Same problem on IE or Firefox

Perhaps you could edit your hosts file and add an entry for google
with the working ip address? Sometimes malware does try to hijack
sites but that's usually to take you somewhere, which doesn't appear
to be the case here. Is the error you get the same one you'd get if
you were offline and tried to connect to an internet site?

Have you even been able to navigate to Google?

I dont know if this would help but try this

Go to Start -> Run -> Type "Cmd" (without quotes)

When the black screen pops up type "ipconfig /flushdns"

Also try "tracert google.co.uk"

And see if you get anything back, if you get an endless list of
timeouts then try the IP address of google which is 72.14.207.99

so "tracert 72.14.207.99"

Also try and put that ip address in your browser instead of google.com
and see if you can get the page.

Also i would check the network connection on the laptop

Start -> Control Panel -> Network connections -> Name of your wireless
Right click on it and click properties
Scroll down the "This connection uses the following items" list and go to
"Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and double click it

Make sure both toggle boxes are set to recieve an address automatically

It could be that your DNS server (if typed manually) is set to a DNS
server that does not contain the IP address of the google site or
cannot contact another server that has the IP address. If set to
automatic already then check the other machine that is on wireless and
check the same settings on there.

If none of this helps then please message back
