Looking for some online game with a lot of users that does not require much of my attention and could be run in background mode while I am working. Time after time I am going to switch to this game and to see what's going on do some actions and than get back to work. This game is supposed to be able to run on its own and to be dynamically changing, but I wish I could break into that process at any time. I don't care if it needs just a browser or some special application to run. Please, suggest anything. | |

pogo.com has a game called Lottso! = TONS AND TONS of people around the world play it - it dynamically changes and continuosly goes on and on without you ever doing anything All you need is Pogo membership to be able to play Lottso! On www.pogo.com P.S. Some free games on pogo like Bowling has TONS of people playing every day and in background runs pretty good. Enjoy. |

I think I have a good idea what you may want. It's a much slower-paced massively multiplayer online game that does not require a whole lot of attention. In fact, you can set your pilot to learn new skills over time while you're away from your computer, even overnight. It's called Eve Online, and a friend of mine introduced it to me a few months ago. Yes, you do have to pay a monthly subscription, but I think it may fit your needs quite well. Unlike many other mmo games, Eve Online's players all exist within a single shard (game world). By contrast, games like world of warcraft have dozens of different shards with 5000 people or so on each. Eve Online's shard has something like 100000 people on its single shard, allowing for a hugely complex and interactive social network. In this world, the economy is completely player generated. Players pilot mining ships to harvest precious ore, which others may purchase to refine. These refined materials may then go towards the construction of ships, weapons, etc. Since mining ships usually need protection, you may decide to take on guard duties for a particular individual or a guild. You can take contracts to ferry goods from one region of the galaxy to another, but be wary, for space pirates (also players) may be prowling well-known trade routes. The pace of gameplay is fairly slow, so you won't be needing to constantly check up on your ship to make sure it is still intact. What makes it so interesting is that everything is completely player-created, right down to fighting over mining rights, territorial disputes, and local politics. Well, hope this helps. |

Obviously he posted first (long before me), but I second qball83's suggestion. EVE Online is probably what you're looking for. |
