The concrete walls/ceilings of my 5-year old condo emit a bad odor. A test has revealed that the odor comes from ammonia in the antifreeze materials used in the poured concrete. I am thinking of applying penetrating concrete sealer over the concrete and then paint the concrete with oil-based paint so that the odor can be sealed inside the walls. I need an expert?s opinion as to whether this method will be effective and whether the paint will be able to resist the corrosion of ammonia and hence prevent the odor from seeping out. Also, I wonder whether there is a special chemical that will be able be penetrate into the concrete and "neutralize" the ammonia inside the concrete walls so that the problem can be cured once for all. I need an expert to suggest a better way to handle the problem. |
