My computer is a P4 2.8ghz with 1gig of PC333 and has a NVIDIA 6600
video card. My computer started acting up 2 months ago when I was
opening a project in Photo Shop. It opened really slow then stopped
working and locked up my computer. I also noticed that my ROXIO Easy
Media Creator started doing the same. I decided to format my computer
and put back on Windows 2000 Pro from Windows Media Edition that I had
on. I have all the updates on my computer and the latest drivers on my
video card. I have not put back on my Photo Shop program, but I am
having the same problem with other things like streaming Video online
through Windows Media Player. If I go to any website that is streaming
video through Media Player it locks up. The crazy thing is I can play
Games like BF2 and DOOM 3 no problem. I have replaced my network
card, replaced my power supply and changed out my ram with brand new
items all this week. I have used
benchmark & stress tests along with utilites from Western Digital and
everything comes out OK. The internet works great until I stream video
and sometimes internet explorer says there is an error and closes.
When I send reports to Microsoft, it doesn't have a solution. This
computer nerd needs help. I have not slept good in 2 weeks!! |

I would start by finding a video which offers the opportunity to
both stream and download the video. If streaming produces an
error, download the same video, noting whether the download speed
is up to par. Assuming it is, then find the file in the directory
to which you downloaded it, and double-click it to play it from
there. If it plays okay when downloaded, but not streaming in
the browser, this will help to narrow down the possibilities.
If the error occurs in both cases, this will also be helpful
to know.
Let me know...

I have a music video on a cd that worked in the past and I played it
on Windows Media Player & Sonic Cineplayer. Both would start to load
"Connecting on Media Player" and it locks up the computer. If I go
into the Task Manager, the memory is maxed out. When I go into the
"Processes" Tab, the program is only using about 2-5%. When I said I
changed out the RAM on my computer, I just pulled out 1 of the 512mb
and tried each on there own. I used Prime95 software to stress test my
memory and it wont crash. Please help me!

Did you perform the tests I mentioned, about playing streaming
net content vs playing a video from your hard drive? What were
the results?
Playing a video from your CD brings in a third factor, which
only confuses things at this point. Your CD-ROM may be failing,
causing the lockup.

No the Music video I used to test was downloaded onto my computer. I
played it out of "My Videos". It was on a data cd. Also I downloaded a
song and streamed the same video and I get the same computer lockup.
