Next week I am going to Germany. A friend asked me to bring back some pfefferkuchen (German pepper cookies). However, he asked for a specific type of pfefferkuchen. He pronounced it like "gefilte pfefferkuchen", where "gefilte" was pronounced somewhat like the Yiddish word. However, I am positive that he is not looking for some kind of fish cookie (yuck!). If you recognize this type of pfefferkuchen, please send me the correct spelling of the word plus a phonetic pronunciation. Also include a definition and/or explanation of why this type of pfefferkuchen differs from a plain one. Many thanks, and happy munching. | |

Thank you for accepting my suggestion as your official answer. I've reposted the information below. Gefüllter (or gefüllte) pfefferkuchen (meaning "filled Pfefferkuchen"). Google Web Search: "gefüllte OR gefüllter Pfefferkuchen" ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=gef%C3%BCllte+OR+gef%C3%BCllter+Pfefferkuchen A recipe: Susis Backparadies: Gefüllter Pfefferkuchen http://www.susi-plus.de/Weihnachtsbackerei/G-Platzchen/Gefullter_Pfefferkuchen/gefullter_pfefferkuchen.html As I mentioned above, I am not German. But I do love cookies! Many years ago a lady brought some Gefüllter Pfefferkuchen (with a delectable orange filling) to a church bake sale, and I remembered the name. Gefilte fish cookies would probably not be nearly as tasty, although I'm sure my cats would disagree. ;-) Best regards and happy eating! ~pinkfreud |

Many thanks for your quick answer. I would send you some pfefferkuchen, but I'm afraid they might not make it back from Germany. Shhh, don't tell my friend! |

Wow (or Holy Cats!), they sound delicious. I'm gonna try to make them next weekend. Thanks for sharing, Normsoft, and for the research, Pinkfreud! |
