I am looking for source(s) for ring pull-style hardware for cabinet
doors for an Art Moderne cabinet. The style needs to be very simple:
a heavy ring hanging "pendant style" from a simple square backplate
that affixes to the cabinet door. The diameter of the ring needs to
be at least 2 inches.
Simplicity is key here; no decoration at all. The finish is ideally
silver or nickel, but I'm open. I'm also open to any sources for Art
Moderne-style cabinet hardware of any type. |

Greetings! Please view this picture (and dimensions of the hardware)
to ascertain if this is the type of pull you are looking for. If so,
I have a list of sources but do not want to answer the question until
I have your confirmation of the correct design.

It's VERY close; however, picture a pull WITHOUT the backplate or the
screws showing -- just the ring hanging from the square (fob?) Thanks
for asking for the clarification!

Is this any closer to the style of the desired item?

Still trying to find the right style!
These two ring-pulls have no backplate, but the knobby thing that
holds the ring is round, not square. Are we getting any closer?

pinkfreud, it's getting closer... not quite there yet! I'm really
looking for the square/round contrast and a heavier ring. I know this
is crazy-making...;-)

I'll keep looking. The square/round contrast does have visual appeal.
Several of the sites I've visited had ring pulls in pewter and iron
finishes, as well as the ubiquitous brass. If silver or nickel are not
available, but if I see something that looks like the right style, do
you want me to post a pic for you to examine?
Another problem is proving to be size. Many, many sites have pulls
with rings that are 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 inches in diameter. Is two inches
an absolute minimum? If so, would you consider an item of
suitably-styled hardware that was designed for some other purpose? If
installed without the strike plate, a door knocker, for instance,
could be a handsome pull for a cabinet.
Please don't be concerned about the "crazy-making" aspect of your
question. You're in good hands here, and we will make every effort to
keep you (and ourselves) from taking a detour to the rubber room. ;-)

I am definitely open to other finishes (pewter, etc.) and hardware
that may be used for other purposes. Feel free to run ANYTHING by me
-- this quest is a knotty problem!

Is this more like it, if I could find something without the backplate?

How essential is the two-inch diameter? I am concerned that once we
have the style nailed down, finding something this large may be a
toughie. During my search so far, I've seen many 1.75 inch ring pulls,
but precious few that are larger than that.

Hi haversian and pinkfreud! You two detectives are something else!
pinkfreud, haversian's selection comes the closest (but with a square
and not round knob, as noted). I've seen the version you chose at
Bauerware (I live in SF Bay area); it's a bit too "rugged" and the
backplate isn't right, but I *am* OK with the oblong ring (not my
first choice, tho') and also OK with a smaller ring (as noted 1.75
inches). Finally, lstein0, I'll check out the site you recommend --
thanks!
