I was unable to find Bedford, UK in the databases that I have access to. The one place where Bedford turned up was missing Perth, Australia. Hopefully another researcher can better assist you. tisme-ga |

The info about the salary equivalence between Perth and London is useful if it can be dated to within one year, and the source can be referenced. The cost of living in London is I understand significantly higher than in Bedford UK. Hence a separatre comparison between Bedford and London, also dated and sourced, will be necessary to complete the comparison. |

I actually live in Bedford (which is about 50 miles north of London)and the cost of living here is significantly less than London (but by how much I don't know. I know that a cost-of-living index is available for various towns and cities, and I know that a few years ago London was given a value of about 1.2 and Birmingham (about 60 miles north-west of Bedford) was given a value of 0.8. Perth Australia was then given a value of about 0.72. However, these values change with time, especially when property prices are on the move, as they are both in the UK and Perth. Hence these values have a significant margin of error as they are old. The cost-of-living index is a somewhat arbitrary means of comparison, it being based on the local price of a standardised list of items and services, but it is accepted as the best if not only means of such comparison. Therefore, what I require are up-to-date figures from a reliable source for the cost-of-living index (or salary equivalents) that can be dated within one year and the origin of these statistics referenced for future quotation. Obviously I haven't found these yet hence I need help. |
