Partly because of the wide range of animal sizes among each of the species listed, we used to learn ratio ranges for calculating blood volume. For cows, pigs, and chickens, the ratio is about 60 (a bit less for cows, a bit more for pigs) for mass in kilos to volume in ml. I used to have a slide rule device that rolled up ratios and calculated collection volumes needed for a variety of tests. Not a slide rule exactly-- think more the circular computation device Peter Sellers used at the end of Dr Strangelove but without the uncontrolled right arm. I leave it to a researcher to answer this part of the question more precisely along with the second part, the entirety of which is underpriced in my opinion. |
