Hello, In a thread entitled "Show me your directory!" on SitePoint (http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251258), the SitePoint members present their web directories along with the listing fees (if any) and directory requirements. The number of such directories is impressive but... while I understand why webmasters would want to have a such a directory (they hope to benefit from the traffic they generate), it puzzles me why some people/companies are willing to pay to appear in them (I'm not speaking about free directories here). Site-sift (http://www.site-sift.com/), for example, offers paid submissions ranging from $24.95 to $100.00. What do you get for that kind of money? Is it traffic? (do people actually visit web directories??) Is it an increased Google PageRank? Thank you. |
