You'll have to break out your policy and find your insurance company's definition section. You want to find their definition of "insured person." Ironically, I looked at my brothers policy today. Progressive's definition of "insured person" is a "named issured" a relative of a named insured or another person that uses the vehicle with permission. All policies are different though, so check yours. ~~Cynthia |

1: What insurance company do you have? 2: Does he lives with you or just visting? Most insurance policies will cover your godson if he does not live with you, you give him permission to drive you car and the fact that he does not have "open" access to the car. Meaning - most policies would cover if the person is a licensed driver, you give them permission to borrow the car and if they do not live with you. If the person lives with you - depending on your policy - you may have to list them as a driver. Just like if I knocked on your door, asked to borrow the car and you know I am a licensed driver and if you give me permission - most 99% will cover. Now if the car is in your name but your godson drives it all the time - your company may not be willing to cover it because they want to charge you premium for the principal operator. Hope that helps - most importantly read your policy and confirm with your agent or rep. |

I believe the answer to this question depends entirely upon the terms of the individual policy. My own auto insurance doesn't cover any driver under the age of 25. If the policy mentions "relatives," keep in mind that this is likely to mean "relatives by blood or marriage," and a godson would probably not qualify as a relative. |
