We used to play a text based game in the early 90's on a PC. I want
to say that Pearl or shadow is in the title but could be wrong. You
started off at a gate and you had to walk through it and into a
mansion. It was a mystery that you needed to solve. You could kiss
the characters and if you kissed the wrong ones they might slap you or
look at you weird. I remember you could take a shower but first you
had to get undressed. We entered take a piss and it replied something
like would you kiss your mother with that mouth?

Hello Pkiller,

Hmm. Its hard to say what game it was without some experience running
it (I certainly don't recall it). Text based games are often referred
to as
  text adventure
or
  interactive fiction
games. Having done some searching using those phrases (as well as
pearl, shadow, mansion, gate, etc.) brings up sites like
  http://www.ifarchive.org/if-archive/games/tads/
which are archives of text adventure games (often based on "TADS - the
Text Adventure Development System"). At this site in particular, there
are a few possibilities such as
  "The Gate"
  "The House"
"Kissing the Buddha's Feet" (well perhaps not so likely this one...)
"The Mansion" or "The Tale of the Adventurous Thief"
The program to run these (and many of the others) are in related directories like
  http://www.ifarchive.org/if-archive/programming/
for several different tools,
  http://www.ifarchive.org/if-archive/programming/tads2/executables/
(TADS V2 pre built executables) and
  http://www.ifarchive.org/if-archive/programming/tads3/executables/
(TADS V3 pre built executables)

Let me know if this helps - if so, I would be glad to prepare a
complete answer. If not, is there some additional information you
could provide to describe the game?
